Characters Name: Mami Tomoe

Canon: Puella Magi Madoka★Magica
Canon Point: Post Episode 3: "I'm Not Afraid of Anything Anymore." Where Mami dies fighting the witch Charlotte. It bites her head off and proceeds to devour her corpse whole.
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Orientation: Mami does mention to Madoka in the third episode that she will never be able to date and find a boyfriend if the younger girl becomes a magical girl. Based on this statement, I will have to say Mami is straight until proven otherwise. She does get along with the other girls though, taking on a sisterly and mentor-like role in the time line shown in the anime canon.
History: Puella Magi Wiki and Wikipedia
Appearance: School uniform, Magical girl.
Personality: Mami is very mature for her age. She speaks formally, showing that she is well-manned and polite. In contrast to the impulsive and hot-tempered Kyouko, she rarely loses her cool and she is still able to speak in a calm and collected manner even when telling Homura she won't hesitate to kill her if ever they would met again. She also has a great sense of justice. Mami could have ignored saving Sayaka and Madoka in the Witch's Maze, just so that she could kill the witch and acquire a Grief Seed; but she chooses to save the girls first. This shows Mami's noble and selfless nature, that Mami goes out of her way to save people who are in trouble. The older girl also takes it upon herself to mentor Madoka and Sayaka in the ways of the Puella Magi, to show them the rewards and the risks they have to take after they made a contract with Kyubey. She is definitely a kind and a very nurturing individual, something akin to a big sister.
However this is all a front. On the inside, Mami is emotionally frail and actually bitter from all the fighting she has been doing. She couldn't really enjoy her adolescence to the fullest because all of her time is dedicated to her duty as a Puella Magi. She would get hurt from the witch hunts, she couldn't kick back and just have fun with her friends nor could even find herself a boyfriend. A Puella Magi's existence is a lonely one and Mami has been bearing the burden for quite sometime now. Mami confided in Madoka she had nobody to turn whenever she's feeling afraid or if she's having a hard time. All she could do was cry by herself. Her spirits lift up when Madoka told her that she is willing to fight alongside Mami so that she won't be along any longer.
It is shown that Mami used her wish to save herself when she and her parents got into a car accident. She says that she doesn't regret making her wish (and that her only regret was that she didn't have to opportunity to choose for herself) but she does feel guilty that she lived and her parents were left to die. It's this guilt that makes Mami push herself when she fights witches. She wasn't able to save her parents so she puts all her energy and effort to save others. Mami's wish was to live. She is literally fighting for her life.
Mami is the type of person who would go to extremes with her righteousness. In another time line, she doesn't hesitate to kill off her younger charges and eventually herself to prevent them into changing into witches. This also showed that Mami can be quite cunning if needed be. She kills Kyouko first because of her powerful offensive ability. She then restrains Homura before the younger girl can use her time manipulating abilities while leaving Madoka because of the her timid nature and her high regard for the blonde, thus not being able to react quickly. She had good intentions, but Mami took it way too far. Madoka shoots an arrow at the Soul Gem on Mami's headpiece, killing her before the older girl could lay a hand on Homura, making this a miscalculation in Mami's part.
When Mami isn't putting her life on the line on a daily basis, she is still normal teenage girl deep down--emotional baggage not withstanding. She is rather fond of sweets and tea as seen in the episode where she invites Sayaka and Madoka in her apartment (She loves hosting tea parties!). She even summons a cup of tea to take a sip after finishing off a witch. Mami loves her tea. Which makes it ironic that she died in a Witch's Maze that's made of sweets and that the Grief Seed shattered her teacup.
Abilities: Mami's abilities and more of her abilities based on the PSP game.
Mami is a veteran Puella Magi and she is an extremely powerful one, too. Kyubey has remarked that not only Mami has experience but she has the talent for magic as well. She fights in a focused and disciplined manner, choosing her shots carefully and reacting quickly whenever she's in danger.
Her Soul Gem can track down witches, shining when a witch is close by. It also serves as her transformation trinket.
Her body is more resilient, resistant to pain and injuries. Her stamina is also higher than a regular person's.
She can jump from very high places without any trouble.
She can enchant ordinary objects (e.g. Sayaka's bat) in order to protect those who wield it.
The ribbons Mami uses can cut through objects, bind together in order to create a bridge or a safety net for a falling person, restrict her target's movements, and create a barrier like the one she used to protect Madoka and Sayaka while she fought a witch.
She has healing magic as well as shown in the first episode, healing Kyubey of the wounds Homura inflicted on him.
Mami also has telepathy though it is not clear whether she still needs Kyubey or not in order to use it.
The only con of this is that all of Mami's abilities rely on her Soul Gem. You crush the Soul Gem, Mami dies instantly. Even though Mami is a skilled fighter, her emotions can get the best of her, making her more reckless in battle. This eventually led to her own demise. Also, if she gives into her despair, Mami becomes the witch Candeloro.
One of her more mundane abilities is that she's a very skilled cook; especially making desserts.

They say when you're about to die, your life flashes before your very eyes. Everything you have experienced while you were alive suddenly plays in your head like an old home movie. All of the memories, good or bad, was all that filled up your mind. That was precisely what was happening with Mami Tomoe while she lay on what used to be the roof of the car her father was driving, bleeding and gasping for breath as she waited for her fate.
It was surreal, she thought, that it was only moments ago that she and her mother were laughing while gathering everything they needed for their trip, that she had help her father looked for the perfect casual shirt for him to wear while on the drive. Slowly, all of those memories were starting to slip away from her fingertips. The shock she had felt was starting to make way for new emotions: fear and desperation. It was too abrupt of an ending, too soon for her leave this world. All of she had ever hoped and dreamed about came crashing down before her. There was one thought she repeated, over and over in her head like it was a mantra:"I don't want to die yet."
As if it were on cue, a strange creature appears before her. In her muddled mind, she couldn't quite make out its features. But that didn't matter now. Perhaps, just perhaps, this was her last hope, the lifeline she desperately needed She reached out her hand, attempting to touch the creature before it revealed it had a peculiar ability.
It could speak to her inside her mind, making her drop her hand in shock.
"Tomoe Mami," it said, its tail swishing back and forth rather languidly like a cat's. "Can you hear me?"
"A soul... reaper?" she thought, prompting the creature to shake its head at her. It continued to speak calmly, as if it was not aware of the destruction and chaos that was surrounding them right at this very moment.
"Are you ready to die? If not, then perhaps I can help you..."
"You... you can?" If this were a different situation, Mami wouldn't believe it, however she wasn't in a position to be skeptical.
Still, she couldn't help but ask, "How...?"
"Just make a wish! But in order to grant it, you must first form a contract with me."
"I... I want to live." She said, in voice as loud as she could muster, growing more determined as she went on. "I wish... to be connected to this life!"
In flash of bright yellow light, her wish came true. A miracle had happened.
Mami Tomoe lived.
