[He slept lightly. It might have been his nature, or it might just have been the result of nights as active as his days- after all these years it was impossible to tell. He heard the knock, and quickly swung out of bed. Mai was just across the hall- was something wrong?

He opened the door without hesitation. Mai? Are you alright?

[brokethecamera]

[She looked surprised that he had answered at all, let alone so quickly.]

Oh! Um...you're awake! I mean, I didn't wake you, did I? Because it really isn't a big deal or anything. I just had a question. A favor? Um...[Aaaand she's rambling.]

[He smiles.]

It's alright. What is it?

[brokethecamera]

[Geez. A smile in this kind of situation doesn't help. She only blushes more.]

I well...I couldn't sleep.

[shadow_spread]

Why not?

[Was something wrong after all?]

[brokethecamera]

I just couldn't shut my brain off, I guess. [She'll just nicely side step what exactly she'd been thinking about.]

Um, could I come in for a little while?

[shadow_spread]

Oh, of course. [He steps aside to let her in, while he turns on a light.]

Thanks.

[She walks in, her movements stiff.]

It's a nice room! [She's just grasping for conversation now. His room was identical to her own.]

The community finds some nice places for us to stay, at least. [It's a little worrying to think that he's almost used to it.

But he makes certain to stay relaxed, in contrast to her demeanor.] Go ahead, sit down.

[brokethecamera]

Oh, right!

[She sits down in one nearby chair, hands in her lap with fingers curled tightly.]

I'm sorry about waking you.

It's fine, really. [He sits down in the chair next to her.]

What's on your mind?

[brokethecamera]

N-nothing in particular, really! [Blushing, she waved a hand dismissively. It was way to embarrassing to say she'd been thinking about him.]

Hmm? There must have been something...

[brokethecamera]

No. No, really. It's not a big deal.

[Please don't make her say it.]

If you're sure. [He's obviously skeptical, but if it's making her uncomfortable he won't push. She'll talk about it when she's ready to.

His eyes catch the room's coffee maker.] Would you like some tea? I think they provide some.

Oh, yes. That would be great.

[She perked up a bit.]
